(Note: This post has nothing to do with the brand. It has everything to do with the music I enjoy.)
So I was on Facebook today and saw that Mayday Parade posted a photo of stuff they keep from their fans. It was a simple post with good vibes. Then some kid comments on how their fans are all “scene kids” who wear skinny jeans and have hair covering one eye, claiming to be unique. Apparently, he felt it necessary to point out his disgust.
Well damn. I wear skinny jeans and my bangs tend to cover my eyes at some point. Hell, you could say the same about a lot of band members in this “scene.” And yes, I listen to a lot of these pop/rock/punk bands. I go to a lot of their shows. But do we have to pick out the kids we think look “scene” and ridicule them? You don’t even know them! Who said they were even trying to look super unique? There’s only so much you can do to dress for yourself and feel comfortable without looking like a freaking peacock.
Honestly, my initial thought was that it was probably one of the last places to complain about how people look. If I recall, for example, All Time Low and Set It Off have at one point or another addressed things like that. They tell the crowd they’re beautiful and to believe in themselves. I’m sure a lot of band members in this so-called “scene” (I really don’t know what to do with that word) have been bullied because they didn’t look right (whatever that means). Point being, we’re all here for the music, not to be judged.
It’s kids like that that make me wonder if it’s all downhill from here. If you’re trying to look cool, you’re doing it wrong.
